Join the Italian Language Conversation Club at VMU “Gargantuesco”

Are you studying Italian and looking for more real-life practice? Have you recently returned from an Erasmus exchange in Italy, or are you planning to go there in the future? Vytautas Magnus University invites you to join the Italian Language Conversation Club “Gargantuesco”, which has been successfully operating since autumn 2023.

During the autumn and spring semesters, many Italian students come to VMU through the Erasmus exchange programme. They are happy to share their language, culture, and experiences with the VMU community, making the conversation club a great space for informal communication and language practice.

This spring semester, meetings will take place every Thursday from 17:00 to 18:30, from February 19 to May 22, except April 2 due to student holidays.

The sessions will be led by Tommaso, a 20-year-old exchange student from Italy who studies Political Science (Scienze Politiche) at the University of Trieste (Università di Trieste). After arriving in Kaunas in the autumn, he decided to stay for the full academic year. Other Italian students may also join the sessions.

The club is open to everyone who already has basic knowledge of Italian, can understand and speak a little, and would like more practice communicating with native speakers. During the meetings, a wide range of topics is discussed – from geography and economics to traditional Italian food, travel, volunteering, and everyday life.

This is a great opportunity for students of the BA programme in Foreign Languages and Cultures: Italian Studies and Romance Languages to improve their Italian skills and gain live speaking practice in Kaunas. The club is also beneficial for VMU students who have returned from Erasmus exchanges in Italy and want to maintain their language level, as well as for those preparing to go abroad, who can better prepare and receive valuable advice.

Such meetings help not only Lithuanian students improve their language skills but also support Italian students’ integration into the university and city community, helping them build connections with local students and actively participate in academic and cultural life.

Students, VMU staff members, and residents of Kaunas are all welcome to join.
