VMU Asian Week 2019

The Centre for Asian Studies (CAS) at Vytautas Magnus University together with the students’ clubs “Hallyu”, “Hashi” and “Wu Wei” invites all students, Kaunas residents and city’s guests to the VMU Asian Week 2019. This year the event will take place on March 4-8 in venues of VMU and other public places in Kaunas.

VMU Asian Week is a one week-long cycle of events dedicated to East Asian countries – China, Japan and Korea. It is done through the presentation of specific aspects of culture, arts and cuisine. CAS social partners in Lithuania actively participated in the organization of this event.

PROGRAM OF VMU ASIAN WEEK:

Monday (March 4) – Day of Words

13:00 – 13:50 Opening Ceremony of VMU Asian Week (VMU Small Hall, S. Daukanto st. 28, II floor);

14:00 – 17:00 Japanese language reading contest. Registration (VMU Small Hall, S. Daukanto st. 28, II floor);

14:30 – 17:00 Chinese language speech contest. Registration (VMU Aula, Gimnazijos st. 7);

14:30 – 17:00 Korean language contest. Registration (Room 310, V. Putvinskio st. 23);

17:30 – 19:20 Korean movie night: “Ode to my Father” (Room 103, V. Putvinskio st. 23).

 

Tuesday (March 5) – Day of Taste

14:50 – 18:00 Chinese, Japanese and Korean food workshop. Registration (Restaurant “Metropolis”, S. Daukanto st. 21);

18:20 – 19:50 Taiwan movie night: “Meeting Dr. Sun” (Room 103, V. Putvinskio st. 23).

 

Wednesday (March 6) – Day of Movement

14:30 – 17:40 Martial art, dances and other movement presentation and workshop (VMU Great Hall and its Lobby, S. Daukanto st. 28);

17:50 – 19:50 Chinese movie night (Room 103, V. Putvinskio st. 23).

 

Thursday (March 7) – Day of Experiences

12:00 – 16:00 Cultural Fair – presentation of Chinse, Japanese and Korean cultures, demonstration of national costumes, cultural workshops, student clubs presentations, etc. (VMU Great Hall Lobby, S. Daukanto st. 28);

12:00 – 12:20 Chinese music and thai chi performance (VMU Small Hall, S. Daukanto st. 28);

12:20 – 12:30 Korean music performance: the sounds of gayageum (VMU Small Hall, S. Daukanto st. 28);

15:40 – 16:30 Mikoshi carrying. (VMU Great Hall Lobby, S. Daukanto st. 28);

16:45 – 17:45 Opening of exhibition by VMU Centre for Asian Studies (4 th floor gallery, V. Putvinskis st. 23);

17:50 – 19:20 Japanese movie night: “Swing Girls” (Room 103, V. Putvinskis st. 23).

 

Friday (March 8) – Day of Ideas

15:30 – 19:00 Brain Battle and the closing of the VMU Asian Week. Registration (Room 414, V. Putvinskis st. 23).

18:00 – 19:00 Closing of VMU Asian Week
