Apply Now: MA Degree and BA Transfer Studies at VMU

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) welcomes international students to apply for Master degree study programmes in the English language in the 2018/2019 Spring Semester. Admission is also open to BA Transfer studies. Application submissions have to be sent online.

Admission is open to 13 MA degree study programmes in English (including 4 at the new VMU Academy of Agriculture). Transfer students may apply for 14 BA degree programmes in English, including 4 at the VMU Academy of Agriculture.

At the master level, VMU offers English-instruction studies of Diplomacy and International Relations, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Applied Biotechnology, Environmental Management, Applied Informatics, International Business Law, Applied Sociology, Educational Management, Social Anthropology. The newly established VMU Academy of Agriculture provides MA studies of Agri-Food Business Management, Administration of Rural Development, Mechanical Engineering, and Hydraulic Engineering in English.

The following BA degree transfer study programmes are available: International Politics and Development studies, World Politics and Economy, Business Administration, Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Ecology, Informatics Systems, Music Production, English Philology, Society, Culture and Communication. VMU Academy of Agriculture offers BA programmes of Logistics and Commerce, Mechanical Engineering, Transport Engineering, and Hydraulic Engineering.

MA Degree Study Programmes in English

Challenging and innovative degree programme Diplomacy and International Relations was launched in September 2001. It was prepared and organized with the support of the Seton Hall University (USA), School of International Relations and Diplomacy, as well as the presence of the support of Stasys Lozoraitis (prominent Lithuanian diplomat) Foundation. Currently this programme is one of the most popular Master study programmes at VMU.

The Molecular Biology and Biotechnology programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, systems biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics. One VMU graduate student of this programme, Meet Jariwala, has shared his thoughts on the experience.

Applied Biotechnology MA prepares specialists with high quality and up-to-date training in the highly interdisciplinary field of Applied Biotechnology with focus (specializations) on Plant (Horticulture, Agriculture and Forest) Biotechnology and Innovative Bioelectrotechnologies. Graduates are able to develop new products and technologies, work in positions with high levels of responsibility in research and educational institutions and industry related to biotechnology, biomedicine, and food industry, as well as pursue their studies at the doctoral level.

Environmental Management enables students to is to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and skills necessary for a qualified environmental professional to carry out a modern scientific research on anthropogenic environmental and climate changes and their impact on the wildlife and human health, analyse and summarise results about the state and changes in the natural environment, and make decisions, solving complex environmental problems according to the sustainability principle.

International Business Law (IBL) aims at preparing highly qualified specialists in the field of international business law able to independently analyse problems of business law in the context of international business, find effective solutions to legal issues and implement them in the international business environment. The main objectives of the IBL are associated with the results/competences that must be achieved/ acquired over the course of studies.

Applied Informatics prepares broad-minded highly qualified information technology (IT) specialists capable of performing analysis of (big) data, formalizing, modelling and simulating complex systems and business processes, performing R&D activities etc. Graduates will be able to work as software developers, software architects, analysts, consultants, project and department managers in different organizations, researchers etc.

Applied Sociology is designed to develop specialists who can analyse the peculiarities and problems of the functioning of society at its various levels, prepare research projects on social issues, find solutions for them and implement them by applying contemporary sociological theories and methods. Upon completion of studies, career options include work at social research centres, public opinion and market research institutions, public administration, private and public enterprises, NGOs, the media, public relations agencies etc.

Educational Management responds to the demands of the contemporary educational systems and therefore is popular among the applicants. The study programme aims to prepare educational managers for different types of organisations involved in learning and teaching activities. The complexity of the programme learning outcomes leads our future graduates to the career of an educator, an educational manager, a human resources developer.

Social Anthropology offers an intensive introduction to contemporary anthropology. As societies around the world vary enormously in their social, cultural and political forms, the students examine these variations and the common humanity contained therein. The students are provided a thorough theoretical and methodological grounding essential for attaining non-judgmental understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity, significance of cross-cultural perspectives and intercultural understanding. The Programme combines classroom and experiential field-based learning activities as appropriate for each student’s career plans. 

Transfer Studies
